Wahyu 16:19-20

16:19 The ¹  great city was split into three parts and the cities of the nations ²  collapsed. ³  So ⁴  Babylon the great was remembered before God, and was given the cup ⁵  filled with the wine made of God’s furious wrath. ⁶  16:20 Every ⁷  island fled away ⁸  and no mountains could be found. ⁹ 

Wahyu 17:12-14

17:12 The ¹⁰  ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but will receive ruling authority ¹¹  as kings with the beast for one hour. 17:13 These kings ¹²  have a single intent, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. 17:14 They will make war with the Lamb, but the Lamb will conquer them, because he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those accompanying ¹³  the Lamb are the called, chosen, and faithful.”

Thus in Rev 14:8 (to which the present passage alludes) and 18:3 there is irony: The wine of immoral behavior with which Babylon makes the nations drunk becomes the wine of God’s wrath for her.
